Eating an Apple Always Makes Me Hungrier...
by Carol Ruhl
These wild dreams
That pant to the surface
Where I fear the future
I mock the future
But why haven’t the familiar characters grown up?
I was always running before
Searching, thirsting for secrets
Passageways, faces revealed, the key to stop someone’s pain
But now I observe
Now I act more helpless
Twenty-six is a tough year,
Jen said
As if the dreams say, this is your lot now:
To be pulled back by my belt loops
To be stuck in the wide mouth scream
(that might as well be a yawn)
As if my dreams say, this is who you are now
