of the free world economy
depends on how many
high definition televisions
Wal-Mart can sell
during a five-hour period

consumers crawling over
each other like ants
grab as many
three-dollar DVDs
as they can carry

they won't discover
until arriving home
several hours later
that these are the movies
they've been ignoring
on basic cable
for the last five years

as my wife rushes
to join the pandemonium
I stand in the store's
book section where
I could fling the
entire inventory of
King, Koontz and Grisham
and not hit a single shopper
