Cut the Fat
by Chris Baribeau
I cut the fat, and stop shaving for weeks.
Smashed all my mirrors,
and found myself looking into spoons and knives,
sharp and harmless, like my legs
that took me outside
towards the roadkill.
Like there's no point in denying the obvious,
on the brink of rebirth.
My Silent Killer brain
shines in the freezer,
looking bad ass
but secretly fighting for its life.
Then there are times I wish I knew
at least one
Indian basket weaver
who could handle herself
under strange, and oppressive conditions,
who I'd call Wynona
and me and Wynona
would always have something to fight for.
